Track doubling between Contone and bridge over Ticino River
Civil engineering
Work description
Work on the track doubling between Contone and bridge over Ticino River on behalf of SBB in Bellinzona started in September 204.
The project with a value of CHF 27'6 million on behalf of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB)-50% for CSC in consortium with MMC-includes the existing embankment extension, new LC foundations, new safety facilities, various crossings, new Alla Monda underpass replacing 2 level crossings, new manhole, and new crossing artifact.
The work is located in the municipalities of Cadenazzo and Gambarogno. The line-doubling work will be carried out by means of a new railway embankment juxtaposed with the existing one. It is planned to be maintained in the existing line in operation.
Affected section: km 160.770-162.150
The construction of the new La Monda underpass to eliminate the point of conflict between the road at La Monda and the Luino-Bellinzona and Locarno-Bellinzona railway lines requires trench excavations, up to a depth of about 6-7 m, from the inside of which to launch the two r.c. push-over monoliths to pass under the two railway embankments. Essen-type track support is planned. Consolidation work (jetgrouting and low-pressure injections for bottom buffer) is planned.
- Excavation: 45,000 m3
- Sheet piling: 25,000 m2
- Jet-grouting columns (mono- and bi-fluid): 35,500 m
To allow the passage of small fauna by connecting Baragie Pond biotope (SA_TI132) with the Nadigh marsh, a 600-diameter metal pipe will be jacked transversely to the railway axis, within the existing embankment, using the pipe-pusher technique. Work is planned to rectify a CDV sewer by constructing a new D = 800 mm pipe to be grafted to the existing one (at night) at two predetermined points and concrete clogging of the section to be decommissioned.
The works include groundwater, water aggotation by pumping, management, treatment and disposal of excavated material and pumped water. The works include, the construction of a reinforced catchment basin and the laying of a temporary pipeline, demolition of the curb and wing walls in the downstream end portion of the section for about 3.6 m, the execution of new cast-in-place reinforced concrete bearing structures (foundation slab, side walls, slab and curb according to SBB standards), a pavement inside the section with side docks, and civil engineering works for the completion and restoration of the railway platform.
