Innovation and sustainability: CSC Costruzioni wins contract worth CHF 132 million for SafeHost Data Center in Suisse Romande
23/06/2021
CSC Costruzioni (Webuild Group) has been awarded a contract worth CHF 131.5 million (€120 million) to build an additional 18MW of capacity for Safe Host's data center in Gland (Canton Vaud), Switzerland.
Work on the new project, which confirms the Group's commitment to markets with a low risk profile, will be carried out by CSC Costruzioni in a joint venture with the Titanium Swiss Group company, starting in July 2021 with an estimated completion within 18 months.
Safe Host has more than 76 MVA of installed capacity at four sites in Swiss to meet the demand of global cloud providers to host their systems in Switzerland.
The contract reinforces CSC Costruzioni's presence in Switzerland, which in the sustainable mobility sector recently won in consortium a contract worth about €80 million to build the North tunnel of the Gotthard Motorway Tunnel, a 4-kilometer-long access tunnel for the second Gotthard tunnel, and in the green building segment in French-speaking Switzerland, where it is currently carrying out work on the renovation of the historic buildings of the United Nations Palais des Nations in Geneva and the new Parc du Simplon district on the outskirts of Lausanne for CFF Immobilier.
Over the years, the Group has built civil, institutional, commercial, cultural, sporting and religious buildings, with more than 100 hospitals and 80 airports completed, with experience in adopting Eco-design & Construction schemes that reduce the environmental footprint of such works over their entire life cycle by more than 30 percent. In a scenario of high urbanization, where cities will have increasing levels of population, with consequent impacts on urban pollution levels, designing eco-sustainable infrastructure indeed becomes imperative to improve the livability of cities.
An example of this is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens, Greece, designed by Renzo Piano, excellence in engineering technology put at the service of culture and art. It houses the country's two most important cultural institutions: the National Library, which holds 750,000 volumes, and the Greek National Opera.
In Italy, thanks in part to the industrial operation Progetto Italia, which allowed Astaldi's expertise to be integrated, the Group is currently involved in the construction of the new Monopoli-Fasano hospital in Puglia, which will make available about 300 beds and 9 operating rooms, and the new Eni headquarters in San Donato Milanese, a project of the U.S.-based architecture firm Morphosis Architects, led by Pritzker Prize winner Thom Mayne.
