CSC Costruzioni celebrates the laying of the foundation stone for the new swimming center in Tenero

15/05/2024

CSC Construction teams represented by Alessandra Marcolli, Pietro Faifer, and Nicola Bertoli today celebrated the laying of the foundation stone of the new swimming center in the presence of swimming champion Noah Ponti, Ticino State Councillor Marina Carobbio Guscetti, Federal Office of Sport (FOSPO) Director Matthias Remund, and FOSPO Deputy Director Martin Frösch. At the end of the event, the approximately 150 guests have the opportunity to tour the construction site and the new building with accommodations of the Tenero Sports Center (TSC), which is scheduled for completion in July 2024.

The project, carried out on behalf of the Federal Office of Sport (FOSPO) and the Federal Office for Construction and Logistics (BBL), involves the construction of a new indoor swimming pool and the replacement of existing outdoor facilities. Depending on the discipline being practiced, it will be able to shrink, lengthen or change depth.

Learn more about the work

Construction work began with excavation in the fall of 2023 and will last nearly five years. The central element of the facility is the new indoor pool, in addition, the existing outdoor facilities will be replaced. With this project, the FOSPO and FBL are preparing ideal conditions for the development of Swiss swimming.

WORK IN TWO PHASES

The current CST space dedicated to swimming is exclusively outdoors and includes a 50-meter pool, two other pools, one for diving and one for non-swimmers, and a building used as a locker room. These facilities have reached the end of their life cycle and no longer meet the new requirements. Therefore, the SFBL will have a new swimming center built for the FOSPO in the coming years. The construction work is divided into two phases: first the indoor pool will be built, and then the new outdoor pool will be built.

THE COMPLETE PROJECT

Work on the indoor pool is scheduled to be completed in mid-2027. It will feature an Olympic-size pool equipped with a movable bottom, a diving pool, and a swimming channel. It is also planned to build two whirlpools, an ice water pool, a recovery and strength training area, locker rooms as well as a space for performance diagnostics and analysis. After the indoor pool is commissioned, the current outdoor training pool will be replaced and completed with a freestyle ski landing area. The outdoor facilities are scheduled for completion in 2029. At the end of 2021, the federal chambers had approved a credit of 91.8 million francs for the construction of the new swimming sports center.
