Excavation work begins on the Austrian lot of the Brenner Base Tunnel for the world's longest rail tunnel

INNSBRUCK, Austria, July 12, 2022 - Excavation work has begun on Lot H41 Sill- Pfons Gorge, one of the largest sections of the Brenner Base Tunnel, which, when completed, will be the longest rail tunnel in the world at 64km. The rail line, which will connect Italy and Austria underneath by crossing the Alps, is part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T. The project is commissioned by BBT SE, the European public limited company responsible for the project. The lot is being built by csc costruzioni sa together with parent company Webuild (50 percent share) in consortium with Implenia (50 percent share).
